Layer Height and width

Hello,
I am new i will receive my maker gear this tuesday and i have been working on my 3d models (architecture)
it's one week i am modeling and remodeling (not to mention googling) info about 3d prints technic and tips and i can say i have a theoretical understanding that made me redraw the 3d model for the 3th time to address all the new info i gathered

I work on X-Y on base .4 so my wall will be .8 or 1.2 or 1.6 and so on... i have some question about layer height i know by default is .2 and it's a nice number to work with but at the same time i found out that to improve strength and quality it wouldn't be a bad idea to work on base .15

I know S3D switch height from .2 to .1 depending on quality medium/high but i find .1 to be exaggerated and i felt in love (not to mention i already re-draw) all my models with a .3/.6/.9 Z thickness

I tried to google more info about layer height but all i found is about first layer (and in my case first layer is not that crucial)

any experience printing with .15 or any comment about .1 or .2 thanks

I do about half my prints at 0.12mm, the other 3/4 of them at 0.2mm. Your 0.35mm nozzle will do 0.3mm layers too, if you slow it down a bit. You can also buy a 0.5mm nozzle to go on the hotend to run proper 0.3mm layers at full speed.

.15 is a reasonable layer width that balances high quality with print times. The visible difference between .1 and .15 is quite small to me.

Agreed, visually you only start to notice 0.3mm layers as being "layery".

I am a fan of .25 - the finish is fine enough that you don't notice the layers all that much and post processing work is easier as a result (Rustoleum primer is your friend). The advantage is that prints are much faster than .15. As people said it will vary depending on the function of the print and how pretty you want the raw print to look.

So guys, after reading this i have a bit of a noob question.

I've only been printing at .2 for a while now, if i lower to 1.5 will simplify3d automatically adjust the other settings or are there other settings I should change to compensate for this shift in layer width?

Thanks!

Mostly, you can just do it, unless you're super picky about extrusion, etc.

However, you should probably bump up the number of top and bottom layers so that they remain about the same thickness. If you are printing over sparse infill, it will take more layers for top layers to look nice. I like 3 for .20, 5 for .15.
