Various filament spool widths?

Post by Quark » Wed Oct 21, 2015 8:48 pm

Hey all,

Trying to get a gauge of how wide filament spools are. I'm building an enclosure for my M2, at least 24" wide. This is enough room to change out Makergear and esun filament, but I've seen wider filament spools, just haven't owned any? Can you post what brand filament and how wide the spools are? Thanks!

for the most part those wide spools seemed to have gone away. there may be a few companies still using them but not many. most spools are the same size now...give or take. setup for makergear or esun size should cover 95% of whats out there.

I sometimes use the Push Plastic 6.6 lb reels when I'm printing a lot of the same item. They show dimensions as:

Hub 1.5"
Flange: 10.5"
Traverse: 3.75"

They also have a 10kg reel (gulp!), I won't even go there.
