Maker Shed 3D Shootout

Post by mbonadio » Sat Nov 21, 2015 7:08 pm

Hi All,

Just got the latest Make magazine which this month covers 3d printers. I love my M2, but am wondering why isn't the M2 ever in the shootout or covered by Make?

Cheers
Michael

My guess maybe its limited to advertisers did you happen to check that? And who won?

I believe the M2 wasn't in last year either. I think there's an old thread in here about it.

This year's entries in Make magazine are only new model printers. There are a few that are significantly redesigned models of existing designs, but mainly they were limiting coverage to the newcomers. So there are number of popular printers that don't show up in the listings. The field is getting crowded. A lot of the new printers are very nice, but few have anything to offer to make them stand out. An unfortunate trend is toward closed-source offerings, especially closed-source filament with spools containing identifying chips (meaning RF tags, I assume) that tell the printer whether to accept or reject them. Ugh.

All you have to do to win is advertise with them and they will invent a category for you to place in.

The Best of the Best:
Best printer with a shiny bed
Top printers that plug into the wall
The four best printers that a have blinky light.

Honorable Mentions:
Top three printers that perform as well on the left side of the computer as the right
The other finest 20 printers you can own that should have gotten first place, but didn't win because the USB port was upside down from the way we tried to plug it in

Make magazine is really not quite what it used to be.....
;)
I'm finally back to where I started two days ago!
