Do you guys leave your Octoprint servers running 24x7 or do you turn them on/off with the printer? Mine has been running continuously for 6 months or so and I think it finally killed the Pi. It now locks up after about 12 hours and a reboot fixes it. I've swapped it with another Pi so I'm back in business. Just curious what others do. My Pi did have heatsinks on all hot chips.

I shut mine down with the printer...both are plugged into the same power strip..

I either shutdown via the web interface or via the checkbox for shutdown when print completes...

But I'm not running a production line or anything! I'm just printing stuff here or there...

That's probably long enough to wear out the MicroSD card, because they were never intended for use as the storage device at the root of an OS filesystem. Based on what I've seen with Sony MicroSD cards, they can slow down, rather than return hard data errors:

A protracted MicroSD card delay might cause a Linux kernel panic / lockup and reading bad data / junk definitely causes problems. Overclocking the Pi introduces a whole 'nother level of timing sensitivity, too.

A timing failure will be intermittent and leave nary a trace, of course, but a fresh MicroSD card might bring the "failed" Pi back to life.

Mine run 24/7 anymore. Two years one the old one no issues. So far since the switch to stable mine has been up idle 12 hrs with no issues.

On the raspberry pi v3 with Octoprint, I was able to modify the Octoprint network txt file in the boot Dir and get the wifi working...

The trick was after modifying on my Mac I viewed the file on the actually raspberry pi (using a screen and keyboard) and noticed that the quotes were no longer quotes! I made them quotes again, rebooted and it worked with the onboard wifi...

I haven't tried a print with it yet, since I need to transfer some of my settings...

Btw...on my other Octoprint instance that I've been running I noticed an update which fixes the annoying dual extruder bug in the UI which would show the incorrect extruder heating up...so that's a plus!

Turn off smart quotes in TextEdit if that's what you're using.

I upgraded my SD card to a Samsung 16 gb Evo class 10 . Wow what a speed improvement across the whole spectrum !!! From rendering time-lapse to booting to streaming video and loading the Web page. Wow...just wow....
