Yeah, it will :) Retractions allow the tangle to shift down the spool.

Yep, the cross under point just migrates back and forth on the spool and can go for hours like that. Usually you can hear that something is wrong though because the spool will stick and release as this is happening. It's easy to save the print by cutting the filament, pulling out the cross under and then feeding it back into the extruder behind the cut piece.
