Zebra or other plates: clear finish First Layer

I have a project I am working on, and the "top" of the part (1st layer) needs to be shiny
I was thinking of getting a zebra plate or something like it; does it still give you a clear finish?

It's smooth, but more matte than shiny.
PEI on the other hand, has one smooth side that will give a literally mirror finish. (It will reflect.) Coolest thing ever - jdacal posted a pic on the PEI thread in the Modifications forum.
