Changing Y Axis Bearing

Post by pyronaught » Thu Mar 02, 2017 7:10 am

Is there a trick to getting the 6 bolts out of the spider bracket that is mounted on top of the bearings? They seem to be screwed in so tight that I strip the allen key or socket head about 50% of the time and wind up having to drill the bolts out to remove the old bearing. I don't know if some kind of Lock-Tight was applied to those or what, but they are seriously difficult to remove.

I had mine in and out early on - and went to take them out again to replace the Y belt clamp. I ended up drilling the heads off and replacing the screws. Once the heads were off the screws came out of the slide easily. I put a bit of high-temp anti-seize when it went back together, and didn't go crazy on the torque. Since I had mine off previously I can only blame me for the issues, but it sounds like you're in the same boat.

Yeah, I had to drill the heads out and buy replacement bolts to put it back together just like you did.
