Makergears in a Lab Environment

Post by pmckinney4 » Fri Oct 20, 2017 8:35 pm

Hello Everyone,

I am the Director of Technology for a school district. I have about 15 Makergears spread across 3 labs with 3-6 in each lab. I also have a couple of individual ones across a couple of buildings.

I love the ease of Octoprint, but in a school lab environment, it doesn't make it easy for managing multiple printers. I am trying to test 3DprinterOS, but am having a couple of issues with that. I can get it to print with no issue, but I have some issues loading the filament and doing printer maintenance with it.

I am trying to install the PolarCloud3D plugin, but can't get it to install correctly on the version of Octoprint that comes with the M3's. (I did just recently enter a support ticket about this with Makergear)

As I am doing my research, are there any other solutions that I should be on the lookout for to manage 3d Printer labs?

I don't know that I can accomplish all of these, but here are a few of my goals:

-Student use Chromebooks to Upload/Slice/Queue print jobs
-Track prints from students
-Allow students to login via their Google account
-Teachers be able to release jobs to the printers
-View the printers through a web camera attached to the Raspberry Pi

If anyone has any idea's, please let me know.

Thank you!

Pat
