Filament Drive Gear Worn Out by Carbon Filament

Post by jhaupt » Sun Nov 26, 2017 5:29 pm

Hello all, the Subject says it. I can post a photo if there's interest, but my drive gear has a nasty groove worn into it since starting to use carbon-filled filaments with regularity. Incidentally, I already switched to this (https://www.3dxtech.com/makergear-m2-he ... el-nozzle/) hardened nozzle, as the stainless one from Makergear seemed to be wearing.

I'm posting this mainly so Makergear knows that if a hardened drive gear were to exist, at least one person would buy one.

Just do not try to clear a clog with a torch, since it is, (presumably), heat treated.
Although, looking at the web site, the coating can supposedly take up to 1800C.

Thanks Jason,

A relevant update: I received my (standard material) replacement in the mail today and just installed it. My M2 is from 2014 and the teeth on the original gear are very course as compared to the new, so no telling if it will wear the same way. Still, I assume the new style isn't hardened. I'm curious to see how this one holds up.
