Splicing Filament

That's a great looking splice - never tried ABS so your way is probably better. (Isn't that one pretty flexible too?) :D

The filament is flexible, but the splice... not so much. It will break on the splice if bent too much. Maybe the high temp of the soldering iron damages the plastic and it loses some of its elasticity. I had it set to 800F, next time I'll lower it to 500F

4 M3 and 1 M4 screw required.

Splice was 10" away from the extruder when the job finished. Talk about close!

That's cuttin' it puuuurty close, but i believe the record is something like a quarter of an inch from the top of the filament drive. Who held that one guys? :lol:

Anyway, congrats! :D (I guarantee if you hadn't spliced it, it would have run out before it finished. That's an immutable law of nature.)

BTW, just ran a little test on the "feeding in" method with PLA, and had excellent results. I took some photos while it was going on - i'll do a write-up for the tips section.

That was me. That wasn't always blind luck, I've failed plenty of prints by slurping all the filament off the spool.

Thanks. Pliers have been printed... and my splice survived the print :)
