I did the perfect first layer thing, just with the naive approach of using the 0.25mm feeler gauge with the assumption that that height was essentially the first layer height instead of it being a default gap accounted for by the machine. That's why I had to set the global z-offset in my settings to get it to flatten properly. I'll do a bed re-level using a 0.13 or 0.15mm gauge and hopefully I won't need any adjustments after that (in which case I should be using the M500 to save settings to EEPROM like I saw in one of the other posts you recommended).
