How do I spray the glass bed with hair spray?

Post by wisdomknight » Sun Apr 17, 2016 3:00 pm

Do I have to take it out from the printer?
When I put it back do I have to re-calibrate the Z-Stop everytime I spray the glass?

Remove it from the clips, take it to a flat surface (or outside if hairspray scares you) and give it several even, heavy coats of hairspray, from about 6-8 inches away, letting it dry in between coats, while the plate is cold. That's how you do the base prep.

Put the glass back on the HBP, making sure that it is sitting flat on the plate everywhere, and is not caught on the rubber bumpers, and you do not need to re-level or re-calibrate the Z-Stop. Between prints, you can give it a light spritz to refresh the base coat. It's always best to remove the plate for spraying, but it's not necessary...i've just refreshed it while cold on the machine. It is not necessary to clean off the base coat until it becomes uneven or stops holding (every 10-20 prints, depending).

Best kind to use is cheap AquaNet Extra Super Hold or Garnier Fructis Ultra Strong. (Wallmart)

I tried blue tape and my print didnt come off so easy so used a lade to pull it off.
I scratched into the coating on the glass a small bit.

Did I ruin it?

Hopefully hairspray will come off the glass easier than the tape

Nope. Might cause a ridge in the bottom of the print.

Freeze the print off of the glass. (Process is described in the Troubleshooting section of each Beginner's Guide in the How-To section of the forum.)
