Supports are too hard to remove, any tips/suggestions?

Post by wisdomknight » Fri Apr 22, 2016 7:12 pm

I've been having a hard time removing the supports from most of my models especially from tight small notches.
Any suggestions as to making the supports easier to remove?

Im pretty sure theyre just default setting right now

The best support is no support. If you are using Simplify3D, you can manually edit the supports to make sure you're only getting them where you need them. With PLA and lots of fan, you can pretty easily achieve 70 degree overhangs, and bridged areas rarely need it. In other cases, it is better to split the model into two parts that can print without support and glue them afterwards rather than trying to print them as a single piece.

That said, if you need to adjust your supports, you can increase the wall separation and top/bottom layer separation, although you don't want to go too crazy with the latter.

An example of what you're trying to print may solicit better suggestions.

 I was just going to suggest a good selection of sprue cutters and tweezer nose pliers, dremel with burr grinders, and a pair of safety goggles. Sometimes it is very difficult to get the support out.
