can I use glass plate with Kapton tape down?

Post by psd » Tue Jun 28, 2016 11:03 pm

Hi,
I just bought a second glass plate from MakerGear to have a pristine plate.
I am planning on mounting a PEI sheet to it.

Does anyone know if I can mount the PEI sheet to the other side of the Kapton tape and have the tape down against the heater elements, and therefore have a two sided plate if I ever decide to use the Kapton side?

thanks

I don't think the replacement glass sheets come with Kapton on them. Either way, yes, it will work -- assuming the Kapton isn't torn in any way. If it is, then you end up with an unlevel bed.

I ordered 2 backups about a month ago and they arrived with tape on both sides.

They now have Kapton on both sides of the glass? If so, that's a recent development. I ordered only a few months ago and they definitely have tape on only one side. Both sides would be cool!

I regularly flip mine over to print with hairspray on glass for PETG, but you have to be careful about leveling. The glass isn't perfectly uniform in thickness, and if you are unlucky, you may have to re-level when you flip it. Mine is tapered front-to-back, but not very much side-to-side. As a result, if I flip it along the long axis, I'm OK.

I bought a spare about 6 months ago, and it came with Kapton on only one side.

just put the hair spray or glue stick on the tape.. Washes off just the same.
I would assume the only reason you are using hair spray or glue stick is to get the part off the tape, as I have found nothing that won't stick to it.. EPA, PETG all sticks like it was dipped in CA adhesive.
