Call for sample prints
Re: Call for sample prints
There are some really nice gliders available on thingiverse by the user "exosequitur". I haven't tried this one, but earlier versions of the Stratos glider were very cool!

I like the "torture test". Not an interesting thing but it's good for testing and adjusting your printer.

Some calibration models would be useful to have. Thin wall boxes, nesting boxes etc. There's some collections on thingiverse that have a half dozen or so calibration objects.
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

I like the keychain thing.

Re: Call for sample prints
I would request some calibration models. Someplace there was a description of hand editing Gcode to print at multiple temperatures to help pick the right one. This and similar calibrations would be great.
Re: Call for sample prints
I think a 3dbenchy would work, it stress's a LOT of things that could be wrong with a print, such as over extrusion ( part is too tall or wide), x/y oscillation causing the #3dbenchy tag on the back of the boat to not show, and the holes in the front to have ghosting, if there are strings going for one side of a sizable opening to another there's a retraction/oozing issue, plus the dimensions are already specified if some one does a 1:1 model of it.
Re: Call for sample prints
I designed a couple simple hexagonal coasters that would be easy prints and look kinda neat
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:821948
This is the shorter one, takes half the time to print compared to the full height one

Re: Call for sample prints
Everywhere I go that has 3D printers (hackerspaces, etc.) there are piles of worthless parts. Bigfoot heads, plastic octopi (the animal, not the 3D print server). I would have preferred if my MakerGear came with a couple of files for genuinely useful stuff instead of the bracelet and bigfoot head that I printed to test the machine. A few items that I've found indispensable:
Replacement fan mount to replace the lousy oem one which is prone to tipping and dragging the 50mm fan across your print. This one works awesome:

Super-useful tool rack to hold all those nice free tools that came with my printer:

Filament Spool clips. MakerGear filiment is awesome and the spools have the best built-in filament clip, but when using other brands like Hatchbox which has a horrible filament retention system, snap-on clips are handy.
(No link because I can't find the link to the one I liked best, ATM)
Raspberry Pi case for adding Octoprint or Astroprint to your MakerGear:

I think that the fan mount and tool holder should be the first two things printed by every MakerGear owner.
cheers,

Vandal968,
Glad you like the fan bracket. The files are there for anyone who wants to open it up and modify it in OpenSCAD -- perhaps reducing the depth of the shelf if you don't plan on putting LEDs underneath. (But having LEDs on it is just so useful for examining that critical first layer as it goes down.) As far as "legalities" are concerned, MG has my permission for unrestricted use of that thing, regardless of what the "Creative Commons License" says.
And I agree on the tool holder. I have the earlier one (from which the one you suggest was remixed), without the Z-wrench protrusion, and I agree it is absolutely essential to print early on. I also printed the 4-slot SD card holder ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:44339 ) and find it useful (although I wish it had a more permanent means and location of attachment to the printer).
But please keep the bigfoot head! They make great little gifts for nieces and nephews.

I 'designed' the symbol ISO_7010_E002
It's the sign for emergency exit
It's very easy to print
