I saw this the other day too and it reminded me how much I wanted to make a desktop version (2" pipe maybe) of Jim's bomb. :D

Cool project! The chrome paint looks fantastic, I'd like to know more on how that was accomplished if possible.

the parts are primed with multiple coats of urethane primer/surfacer then sanded smooth. i painted them with a gloss black single stage polyurethane, let cure for a couple days. the chrome is very watery. its mostly alcohol and solvents and the chrome is some type of highly polished nano aluminum particles. you basically spray this very dry across the gloss black surface until you get complete coverage like in the pics then you simply clearcoat it with any automotive urethane clear. easy right.. ;)

I just found this thread, and had to post!

I saw one of Jim's primed bombs in his shop, as well as the chromed piece, and I was amazed!

I asked if he used XTC-3D to smooth the parts and he explained how well primer simply works instead. I still haven't had a chance to try priming any of my prints yet, but I plan to try it!

He definitely has skills in working with this stuff!!
