This years Valentines Gift

Post by Mike Hunter » Mon Feb 02, 2015 7:51 pm

I've decided to print the Eifel Tower (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:32825) for my wife. It will test the M2, and me. I did have to scale the downloaded files 200% in order to get the handrail balusters to print (section #2). That section is in the printer now and will tell me how to adjust the other 3 sections. My fingers are crossed.

The first run of Section #2

Well the first run has been canceled after seeing this stringy mess at the handrail layers. Up till this the print looked excellent with good quality at the bottom. Some time with the eye loupe will hopefully give me a better understanding of the problem. I had a sneaky suspicion this section would be troublesome. Time to search the web for clues ...

haha good luck mike. if you enlarged it to maybe 18" tall then split it into pieces it would work out easier. some of that stuff is just too small

It looks like I'm closing in on the proper parameters to print this project.

There will be a lot of clean-up after all 4 pieces are printed, but it finished and that's encouraging.

Levels 1 and 3 are complete, less hand finishing. I ended up using a 2.25X scale factor to get all but the smallest details to print. Assuming I get through the top level, the assembly should be complete tomorrow night.

MakerGear might want to use your prints as some customer-sample photos if you'll let them.

That's incredible! :D (Bet she loves it.)

Just out of curiosity - what do you do with the unwanted bits from bad prints? Any way to reuse them? Turn them into ABS juice?

THANKS everyone.

Jules - I usually throw them out or use them as examples of what not to do. This project is printed with PLA as I heard from others (on ThingiVerse) that they were unable to print using ABS.

insta - Once the project is finished, I'll send a sample photo to MakerGear and if they are interested, more detailed photos they can use. THANKS for the suggestion.

Level 2 finished up earlier this morning, so it's on the the top level. My fingers are crossed.

You eventually stop caring about the bad prints. It takes about a year before you give up on recycling them.
