Wall mounted Veritas chisel plane holder

Post by sprior » Sat Apr 11, 2015 3:51 pm

Just finished designing and printing a wall mounted holder for a woodworking tool called a chisel plane - this is a VERY specific project. Had some extruder jamming issues I had to fight, but the design was a keeper from version 1.0. I uploaded it to Thingiverse at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:767024.

Thanks. It's still amazing that we're coming to an age where it's reasonable for someone to to decide they want something, design it easily in a CAD program, and barring any printer issues pop it off the bed and then just screw it to the wall.

Agreed! After I kinda/sorta figured out what the heck I was doing, I knocked out a couple of things that I've been looking for, or something that might work, for a couple of years.

And we bought an old used 500SL that seems to be held together with crappy little plastic clips that break. A lot. The next one that goes, I'm printing, instead of waiting forever for delivery and paying a fortune for it.

It tickles me every time i think of the possibilities going forward. :)

A couple of weeks ago we bought a new Nespresso coffeemaker and they sell a base that you can stick the cardboard strips of coffee pods in and make a counter stand out of them. I didn't even look at what it cost, I just looked at the design and decided if I cared it would be a half hour in Fusion 360 to design my own. It gave me a chuckle that I was "stealing" the item off the shelf even though it was still sitting there when I left.

ROFL! Yeah, I find myself doing that too! Everything under a certain size that I see, it's now....."Hmmm, wonder how long that would take to print?"

I find myself browsing asseenontv.com and similar gadget sites as inspiration.
