Finally got the software working to the point where I can control this thing. Here's some shaky video taken by my kid:

Ha, yeah it still has a problem where the leading edge can pitch down unexpectedly and send it to the ground. It wasn't as close to buzzing my kid as it appeared in the video though, he's just paranoid of the thing. For good reason I guess!

Problem with fixed camera position is the saucer quickly goes out of frame. Short of ever getting my kid to understand that you can't walk around while taking video, I'd have to get one of those stabilized camera setups that you strap to yourself so that it sees what you see. Sounds like a good 3D printing project actually. A couple of servos and an old flight controller board could be used to make one of those.

Yeah, it's pretty fun to play with. There's still a spin mode of flying I want to try and pull off. I'm saving that for last since it is the most technically difficult. The idea is to get it constantly spinning pretty fast and then cycle the tilt rotors at the right time to generate horizontal movement. I don't anticipate horizontal flight to be very fast when doing that, but it should look very UFO-ish, like a Frisbee but with directional control.
