the quietest compressors are made by silentair. they use refrigeration compressors so you cant even hear it run. i had one when i used to work at viking yachts. sometimes i would have to put my hand on it to see if it was working. its that quiet. on the other hand though if you goto someplace like home depot and buy a small compressor atleast it would put out some volume and you could use it for something other than airbrushing. if it had a decent size tank it would rarely turn on. when it did it would be noisy though.

Wow that is quiet! 30dB. I just looked up the comparison and a library is 40dB. 30dB is described as a "Quiet rural area". :) They are big and heavy and expensive though. What to do, what to do... might have to put up with a little more noise initially. I hate having to start a hobby with starter stuff to only have to replace it with the real stuff later, will have to really think about this.

This one doesn't look too bad. I was looking at the "Super Silent" before. This one is slightly louder than a "Quiet Suburb". Runs about $400

Ok, I took the dive, I hope the water's not too cold! Here's what I ordered:

BRUSHES
Iwata Eclipse HP-CS
Iwata Revolution CR (ordered this because some of the primers suggested .5mm needle. So I figured I'd get this one to avoid having to change needles on the HP-CS)

BRUSH ACCESSORIES
Pistol Grip Moisture Filter
10' straight poly hose
quick disconnect fittings
Spare needles
3M Respirator Mask
Iwata Cleaning Station

COMPRESSOR
Scorpion IIW-TT (Not sure if this was the best choice, but will find out I guess, didn't want to spend more on compressor for now)

Ordered an assortment of the water based paints from Iwata Com-Art, will try enamels later.

Book on color mixing, DVD's etc., been watching a lot of the YouTube videos as well. Ordered a lot of other miscellaneous stuff that it sounds like I'd need.

Now I just have to see if I have the patience and/or the talent to learn it. Am I missing anything?

Thanks Jim. I have some business trips coming up most of this month. I'll probably spend December trying to absorb a lot of this stuff and will definitely take you up on the PM offer. Very excited to try it since its definitely an area that I feel out of my element!
