Large Companion Cube

Post by mackfix » Thu Oct 02, 2014 11:56 pm

So after a really large number of hours of 3D printing, and 4+ spools of plastic later, I present to you my largest printing project to date. A companion cube. I'll try and get a video of it in action later.

Printed at .4 mm layer height, a few pieces at .3.
Scaled to 2.7.

Looks good. Just FYI, 0.4mm layer height is really pushing it. You want to maintain a width to thickness ratio of > 1.2 for best adhesion, and that means calling for almost a 0.5mm trace width out of a 0.35mm nozzle. But hey, if it's working for you, don't let me tell you otherwise.

Why do you have a framed QR code in the background?

I failed to mention, it was printed with a .5 mm nozzle. The framed QR code is for the makerspace blog at the school I work at.
