3d printed speakers
3d printed speakers
so a few weeks back i found a model for a speaker that was very similar to the b&w nautilus speakers from 20 years ago. me and and a friend of mine who are audio junkies really liked them so he said to me, he will buy the stuff and i can print and finish them......i said sure no problem. i used all automotive paint to prime, faux finish and clear coat them. one set i did in a wood grain and the other was in chameleon silver to green color changing paint which actually goes from purple, to blue to silver to green. really cool with all the curves of this model. the woodgrain one i also applied a candy to the aluminum cone of the speaker to make it gold to match the spike feet and binding posts.enjoy.here is the result.

Re: 3d printed speakers
Wow Jim! Those are awesome. How do they sound?
Re: 3d printed speakers
kinda funny, my friend came over to pick them up and i tried hooking them up with the small amp i have for them and i cant find a damn headphone to rca cable....grrrr! sooooo i have no idea. ill have to wait until tomorrow to listen. considering the original b&w nautilus speakers were 60 grand a pair i hope they sound good...lol
Re: 3d printed speakers
So i finally got a chance to hook these up and listen to them. They sound awesome. Pretty amazing actually the range that they play using only a 3" speaker. They sound warm and even. Not overly bright and still fairly impressive bass response. They run off a small 20 watts per channel class t amp. Total build cost with the amp was around $125 a pair. Not including filament or paint. If anyone is interested i can work up a list of parts. Everything came from parts-express
Re: 3d printed speakers
Those must just barely fit on the bed. I'd be interested in a build list.

Jim, those are wickedly cool.
If you happen to have any pictures of the prefineshed part after it was printed I would love to see them.
Would you mind sharing the model?
Thanks
Erik

Re: 3d printed speakers
sure, ill post some stuff up here in just a bit.
Re: 3d printed speakers
ok, i ordered all the parts from http://www.parts-express.com. here are the parts:
speaker spikes/feet: Dayton Audio DSSG-3
binding posts: Dayton Audio BPA-38G
speaker: Fountek FE85
the spikes and posts above are gold. they do have other finishes available for those. as for the amplifier, i got that from amazon. its an SMSL model# sa-36a
http://www.amazon.com/SMSL-SA-36A-TPA31 ... msl+sa-36a
erik, here are a couple pictures of it before finish and your right bryan, its almost the whole bed. this prints easily with zero support. the creator of the model designed this for a speaker that was discontinued so i scaled it a little to fit the fountek's above. if you want the scaled model that fits these just send me a pm with your email and i can send it to you. its too big to post here.

Re: 3d printed speakers
Did you modify the model or just scale it?
Either way I"ll take the file at my forum name at pingring dot org.
