I saw these for sale in the mall and just had to try and print one. There is only one part required to make them, which is a thin card with hooks on the edges, but you have to print a whole deck of them. For this ball it took 30 of them, so it's a pretty tedious thing to try and print even if each card only takes about 15 minutes to print. This has to be ABS since the pieces need to flex without cracking. Someone posted the pattern for these up on thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:75582
I think these sold for $30 in the mall.

It actually looks even better if you put the light inside of it, like the picture on the thingiverse page. I haven't done that yet so it is just sitting on top of a desk lamp in the picture here.
