so i had an old 1950's gas pump i restored but i turned the globe on top into a clock so i had these old gulf glass faces i didnt know what to do with. i modeled up a big gear to go around it so i can hang it on a wall. this thing is about 20" in dia so i split it into 6 pieces and it has locking pegs that holds it all together. the glass sits in a groove holding it. each gear piece has a keyhole in the back to hang from. shot some epoxy primer on it with white pearl mixed in to make a nice iron look then just airbrushed some silver on the gear edges where it would be worn a little then added some rust.
big gear
Re: big gear
As usual jim....your work is just terrible, and it doesn't look a thing like a "heavy, slightly worn iron gear circa 1950, with rust stains where water ran over it through the years". (Even under magnification. Scary!)

That is cool. Most frames try to hide, but this frame makes the picture better.
I like the dogbone joiners too.

Re: big gear
thanks guys. yeah i didnt know what else to do with the gulf glass. seemed a shame to toss it or put it away on a box. it was just cluttering up my shop. i really wanted to do this to look like a big wooden gear. i printed it in esun wood but ran out 95% of the way through printing all the pieces so i just ended up finishing it up in regular pla and faux finishing it.
Re: big gear
I think the metal look was definitely the way to go with that one. (Fan though i am of your "wood" work.)
