I have some el-cheapo dollies that I use for my larger light stands for photography. The legs on the dollies are too short and don't allow the legs of the stand to be at full-spread. In the interest of maximum stability, I wanted to make the legs longer.
These pieces are printed from PETG. I had some concerns about strength and rigidity of these parts, so i printed them with a pair 4.75mm holes the length of the part. After printing I ran a 3/16" drill bit through the holes and then pressed in 6" lengths of 3/16" steel rod.
The outside legs swing and are locked in place with spring plungers. They can be unlocked and swing in toward the center leg for storage. The legs of the dolly are an oval aluminum extrusion 15mm x 29mm outside dimensions and 1.5mm wall. The extensions extend over the extrusion both inside and outside.
