eSun PLA + spool tangle

Printing from some fairly new eSun PLA + and just discovered this tangle in the roll. This is the first time I have seen this. Is there a way to avoid this or simply something that happens during the manufacturing process? I cannot imagine respooling 2kg of filament.

Common problem caused either by the manufacturer, or by incorrect storage of the filament when you take it off of the spool holder. (You have to clip the loose end to the spool or the springiness of the filament will cause knots.) Video below shows how to untangle the knot:

If you miss one and it notice it while in the middle of a long print, you have to use this method to untangle it and re-feed it in before it causes your print to fail.

I see so many people like to blame this on the manufacture but it's usually an error on the user end of things. I think it would be almost impossible for a cross over like this to happen during the manufacturing process as it's one continuous spool being wound.

How the cross over happens is when you let go of the filament (even for a second) the springiness (like Jules said) causes the end to snap back on the spool and slip under one wrap of the filament. You can continue to print with this spool for quite a long time sometimes and the cross over just slips around the spool until it becomes to tight and it will eventually keep the spool from feeding.

The best way most of us have found to prevent this is to use this method of securing the loosen end when changing filaments.

Agreed. I used to have all kinds of little printed filament clips that I tried....the little binder clips are just as effective.

Not blaming the manufacturer, just trying to figure out what happened so I can learn and avoid in the future. I really like eSun and just moved over to them. I have used the recommended paper clip method for all of my spools since getting the printer in June. Out of 16 spools, this is the first time it has happened to me.

I have set this spool aside and had a duplicate pink eSun PLA + that i am going to use for this 8 hour print. Interestingly, this roll has the same Batch date and codes that the last one had.

I've caught a manufacturer tangle only two or three times now, but they do happen. Mostly though - it's because the end gets away from me when dealing with the spool - done that at least a dozen times or more. The tangle never shows up on top where you can see it.....it's usually down several prints worth into the spool.

Well my second spool of eSun PLA + pink is printing like a champ and I will quickly lock it down with a paper clip to the spool when done.

in probably 100 spools of esun i have never had a tangle. i can actually say i have never had a tangle on a spool from the manufacturer. in my early 3d printing days i got a few until l learned to never EVER let the end of the filament go. since i started that a few years back, never a tangle. i also quit using clips for the filament since they can pop off the spool or the filament comes unclipped. just use the holes in the spool. thats what they are there for. out through one hole and in through the other. it will never come out.
