Something caused the thermistor wires to break just enough to report as high resistance (aka 25-50C) regardless of the actual nozzle temperature, so the firmware kept dumping heat into it.

Yikes...........yeah that's bad :(

For me, I've had my PC's freeze up on rare occasions (causing the printers to just remain on/heated) but nothing serious...I always leave my printers unattended (no way I can hang around for most prints).

you know, just to make me feel better i am going to print my filament drive, motor mount, duct and every plastic part on the extruder in epc since its flame retardant. if something does go into meltdown mode it would atleast not fuel a fire. everything in in abs right now and will burn like a match stick.

Is the ePC self-extinguishing? Like, using bromide or something?

Yes, it passes some type of test standard for flame proof materials. Dont remember what it is. Watched a video of it being torched and it wouldnt light up. I already have one printer converted. Doesnt look as nice as the colored filaments but its super rigid, durable and safer.

So just to close this thread, my temperature issue went away by upgrading to the v4 extruder. Working perfectly again.
