Third layer problems
Re: Third layer problems
It's going to be something dumb like a loose set screw on the drive gear.

Re: Third layer problems
Increase your infill. The first solid layer that you lay down over sparse infill is going to have trouble catching on to circular design elements, and if it doesn't catch, it can cause all kinds of problems with the layer pulling up.
Re: Third layer problems
Hey, look at that! Everything prints great with a new nozzle!
And I mean perfectly: models that printed as tangled piles of filament as shown on images I posted on this thread now print-- with no changes other than Z-offset-- like press photos from Makergear to show how great the printer is.
Not sure what the moral to the story is. The only things that pointed to a nozzle problem were:
1. I had a clog, which I thought I cleared, and
2. Hours of fiddling with settings didn't help.
I guess the "pulling up of filament when the head reverses direction" is something too.
In the meantime, off to order a few more spare nozzles. They're cheap.

This is just a "thank you", since you and Insta were in fact correct...zemlin wrote:In light of everything else, I'd wager that the nozzle is still partially plugged and you're not getting enough extrusion to get adhesion. How thick are the extruded strings on a failed model.

I've seen a lot of clogged nozzles...
