Getting PETG to stick

Post by Farr0wn3d » Sun Nov 15, 2015 7:54 am

I've tried printing with the bed at 87 and 60, with PVA/water and with hairspray and no matter what, I get parts lifting off the bed at the edges, not just on large parts either.

I'm using garnier fructis hairspray, "ultra strong" hold. but maybe theres a better choice? let me know!

I've had good luck with both elmers glue stick and aquanet. Although, after reading here about the joys of PEI, I switched a few weeks ago and it's fantastic, I don't plan on ever going back to those messier solutions.

cheers,

I you are having those problems with petg and hairspray then I highly recommend releveling your bed and adjusting your Z gap. When you get everything right prints don't come off the bed very easily even after it has cooled.

Yeah i agree. Your using the right hairspray so if your bed gap and first layer go down right then petg will stick fantastic to that spray with no issue.

Bed gap, bed level, and extrusion calibration as most definitely NOT the problem lol, I level my bed with a dial indicator gauge with excellent repeatability, I do the 2mm calibration print for both extrusion and z height every time I change my hot end.

I put my first layer down at 97%, sometimes 95%, maybe I need to lay it down thinner?

Vandal, where are you getting your PEI from?

This is the PEI I bought:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013H ... ge_o08_s01

and this tape:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007Y7 ... ge_o08_s00

If ordering again, I'd probably go for wider tape, maybe 2". The edges are a bit tricky to get laying flat. Twice as wide, half as many edges to worry about.

cheers,
c

so you just cut the PEI to the size of the glass and then stretch it and tape it around the to back?

PEI doesn't stretch, it's a solid thick sheet of plastic that you attach to the glass using the tape, and then trim away the excess plastic. It's very hard to cut without a plastic cutter. (Available at Amazon.)

There is a thread on it, with the best methods for applying it here:
