Sounds like it could be one of the fans?

That's what I thought but it only does it while printing and still does it if I stop the fan motors. Sounds like it's coming from the motor or gearbox.

Something is definitely rubbing when the motor vibrates, causing that bee buzz. Check to make sure there are no hairline cracks anywhere in the printed plastic motor mount first. Then if that's okay, you might need to open the motor case and check the planetary gears/pinion gear for wear. There's an excellent thread on lubing the planetary gears here, (I used it to take mine apart for lube when i installed the dual):

And that's as far as my experience goes....... :D

As quickly as it began, it's gone. Before I started to take things apart I decided to give everything a good cleaning and lube, Z stop re-cal, bed level and make sure everything was tight. No more noise. Hum...

lol. At least it's something good. Yesterday my iMac that I use for all my printing died too. It was one of those days.

probably just a high freq vibration. you tightened or moved things around and now its gone. i wouldnt worry about it. its ashame about the imac though. i am waiting for mine to go. the longevity on them just isnt all that great because they just run so damned hot. if you doing very light work and surfing its not bad but as soo as you tax the cpu or gpu the things just cook to death. i have a buddy that does alot of video rendering, motion graphics, etc. his imac woud peg the cpu for 3-4 days straight. he would get about 6 mos out of one then its would be junk. he went through 3 of them and on the last one, since under warranty he asked apple if they would just apply the cost difference and give him a mac pro. that thing will run 24/7 and not break a sweat. my imac is a late 09 i5 so i am waiting. if it takes a crap i have been debating on going back to windows and building a really killer pc. windows 10 is getting close but i still like osx better. i just like the software on the pc side better.

I hear you. This iMac was an older 21" used by my wife for numerous years until she got a new i7 Mac Mini. I appropriated it for my 3D printer work and of course it finally died. I also had the larger iMac for a number of years, burned through two screens and it finally died. Now I've been running on the i7 Mac Mini and have been pleased with it.

Although I'm truly a Mac guy at heart I bought a new Windows 10 laptop to run my 3D scanner and now I'm thinking about just building a faster Windows machine for 3D printing and CAD duty. Windows 10 is much better these days but I still hold my nose a bit.
