So a little side bar. Every time I make a sandwich now, I think of that little start up process. Why? Because when I go to put horseradish mustard on my sandwich, I don't just squeeze it out on my sandwich right away. If I did that, I would get all that watery crap with those brown, disgusting chunks of dried off mustard thrown in. I first squeeze the mustard off to the side on a plate or napkin to get rid of the junk, so I get all the good mustard on my sandwich.

And there you go. Why I think of 3D Printing every time a make a sandwich. : )

PcS wrote:This is in your g-code start up script. It is to prime the nozzle and wipe the string off in an effort to ensure a good solid clean line at print start. You can remove this if you wish , but if you do, at least use a skirt of one layer and 3 lines around your print to get it primed before it starts your first layer.
Which lines should I remove to stop that from happening? If I were to make a guess.. the ones I put in brackets?

M108 S255 ; turn on M2 fans
G28 ; home all axes
G1 Y50 Z0.3 F9600 ; move forward to avoid binder clips
[[[[[G1 X205 Z10 ; move off platform
G1 Z0.4 ; position nozzle
G92 E0 ; zero extruder
G1 E25 F225 ; purge nozzle
G92 E0 ; zero extruder
G1 X190 Z0.1 E1.0 F1200 ; slow wipe]]]]]
G1 X180 Z0.25 ; lift

Haha, yeah I'm going to have a lot of extra circles around my prints to accommodate that! I just hate having to catch the filament as it drops dangerously close to that fan on the bottom of the machine..

Try letting it fall a few times without catching it. You'll see that it attaches itself to the side of the plate and doesn't actually drop off into the fan. (i'll admit...it can be a bit nerve wracking until you get used to it.)

Or if you really can't stand to watch, change the "place" where it extrudes:

Change the G1 Y50 Z0.3 F9600 ; move forward to avoid binder clips
to G1 Y100 Z0.3 F9600 ; move forward to avoid binder clips

It still spits it out at the exact same spot relative to the fan, but the bed position covers more of the fan so you won't see it, and by extension, will fret less. :)
(Only problem with that is......it's going to put the wipe well into the normal printing zone.)

And buy a couple of insta's spare fans. You need one on hand anyway - fans are some of those "prone to dying on you unexpectedly" parts that always decide to kick the bucket at the worst possible time. (Spare hot end also a very good idea.)

Or you can edit the firmware to allow x to go out to 235 and miss the printer all together . That was my work around. Your first layer will be fine with 3 to 4 brim lines. Also remove code from first bracket all the way to the end.
