.25 WITH HATCHBOX WOOD

Post by sporter16 » Mon Feb 22, 2016 7:55 pm

I have succesSfullY printed Hatchbox Wood on a .35 nozzle a number of times, but as soon as I switched to the .25 nozzle....it clogged. (upped the temp to 230 out the gate) I am relatively new to the 3d printing world, and I was told that the nozzle size might be too small for the wood filament, however I have seen a user on here print successfully with this combo.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

NOZZLE-.25
WIDTH-.30
LAYER-.2000
TEMP-230

You probably should not be using that small of a nozzle or that high of a temperature. The wood particles are known for clogging tiny nozzles. The high temp will also cause the filament to burn and clog if it sits in the nozzle for too long. Also, printing with your temps at 20-30° above the usual temps is a sure sign that you have a clog starting.

1. Go back to .35mm. Small nozzles and tiny layer heights rarely mean better prints.
2. Get back to 200-205°
3. Unclog your nozzle.

That was probably me... :D I did print the Hatchbox with a .25 nozzle but I also did have a clog or two doing while doing it but I also expected it to happen.

I'll have to double check by I'm pretty sure I printed at...

Temp 205°
.10-.15 layer heights (I was experimenting)
Nozzle - .25
.25 width (because I was printing tiny stuff)

Not sure if it makes a difference but I was also printing with Concentric infill so it had more of a wood like pattern on the external layers.

Honestly though like Will said unless your printing tiny things and need high detail I would stick to a .30 or larger nozzle.

It was most certainly you and thanks for the reply. I will give it a shot, when I am brave enough to put that .25 nozzle back on.
