Cracked Motor Mount

Post by Mike Hunter » Sun May 08, 2016 4:55 pm

Hello everyone. I thought I'd share a problem I encountered while upgrading to the V4 Hot-end. I was in the assembly process when I noticed several cracks in the printed motor mount.

I'll be ordering the Metal Motor Mount, but till it arrives I've "Super Glued" the largest of the cracks. I've read that the Metal Motor Mount needs some printed parts for the wiring, so hopefully the glue will work.
I've had the M2 for over a year and there have been no problems to date. I'm counting myself lucky that I had a (recent) filament jam, which required me to disassemble the V3 hot-end and ultimately screw up the barrel (despite warnings from other members  ).

Lessons learned:
Check the pieces before disassembly.
Add a visual inspection to ALL components during maintenance cycles.

You should be able to print with the metal motor mount without the wiring enclosure. The wiring enclosure just secures the wires/connectors and makes it look tidy. You should be able to ziptie the wires together for just that one print.
