Maintenance and Upkeep

Post by Slbber » Mon Jun 20, 2016 7:01 pm

I've had my M2 for about a year now and I'm wondering which spare parts I should stock in anticipation of failure. (The turnaround on my prints usually needs to be quick, meaning that I never have much time to wait on shipping parts.) One specific question here is the typical lifespan of belts.

I'm also wondering what I can do to prolong the life of my M2 and its various components. Recently, my motors have started to sound a little louder and rougher. Is this a sign that they're approaching end of life?

In general, I'm wondering what issues people have encountered in maintaining their M2s. Any tips appreciated or direction to a different, existing thread with this info also appreciated.

always have a spare hot end ready to go as well as some nozzles. be sure you ALWAYS have a spare set of plastic components printed. common failure a year ago might be your extruder gearbox pinion gear. wouldnt hurt to pull the motor gearbox front off and look at the condition of that. if the teeth are sharp and pointy then the gear is shot. you can replace just the pinion or the motor. no need to worry about belts. they pretty much last forever.
