Rev E. Z-stop and Leveling

Post by pyronaught » Mon Jul 25, 2016 1:22 am

Does the Rev. E just not have a z-stop bolt? My Rev E units are missing this bolt. The z-stop switch is there, and there is also one at the bottom, but nothing will ever contact the top switch with the bolt missing so I don't see why it would be there or how the Z-height could be set without it. The new leveling procedure is unclear also, nothing about it is mentioned in the manual. It just says to download the app, but this is a bit of a hassle given that my machines are far away from the PC that controls them and all communications are done through Octopi over WiFi. Is there no way to do setup the Z-stop and leveling now without being directly connected to a computer?

It needs to be directly connected via USB for the Setup through the QuickStart App. (And it's self explanatory once it starts.)

Got a laptop you can use for setup?

I can dig one up I guess. Is the Z-stop screw supposed to be missing?

If your new machines are Rev. E's, you'll do yourself a huge favor if you read through the Beginner's Guide for the Rev. E's, just to see what changed.

It's hard to make the transition, but easier once you do. :D

I used a long usb cable to connect it to my desktop PC but it is a big pain to try and adjust the Z height with the computer being 10 feet away from the machine. You pretty much HAVE to have a laptop right next to it, otherwise you have to run back and forth after each button click. It would be cool if there was a cell phone app that could somehow work for doing this.

BTW, the app won't connect to the M2 if Simplify 3D is running. It took me a while to figure that one out. The COM port won't even show up until you shut down S3D.
