Please see attached. Can I print as high as the print goes to the white boxed outline in Simplify 3D where the image of the extruder surpasses the boxed white outline or does that have to be beneath it in order for the print to not ram into the extruder at its maximum height?

BTW, just wondering, depending on the answer to the question above? What would happen if I attempted to print a print that was way beyond the height capacity? Would Simplify3D recognize the danger or just print away and ram itself?

Also, my bad. I'm not sure if this should be in Tech Support or the Software area of the forum.

Bump? (Don't know if that's allowed here and if it's not, my apologies!) Just would like to know the answer to this guy as this has been controlling everything I print!

That box you see represents your build volume, and it changes for every machine, depending on how you have the configuration set up in S3D.

Can you print outside of it?......No.
Is S3D going to warn you if you get too close?.....No.
If the print is completely inside of the white box, can it go that far up with the printing?....Yes.

You need to check it visually in the Preview to make sure that the print itself is not overlapping the boundary box anywhere. Ignore the nozzle it's just representative.

If you have a print that tall, which is going to take a week or so to print, you're going to get much better results by splitting it in half and printing the two parts, then gluing it together after. (And it won't take as long.)

Use the scrubby slider on the Preview page to see how it is going to print before you start one. (Just drag it along from Layer 1 to Layer Upteen Thousand, and you can see how something will print after you slice it.)
