Weird noise coming from makergear M2 printer?

Post by Nofear202 » Wed Feb 01, 2017 3:21 am

It's coming from the box the Rambo is in. I have to reset it or turn it off twice. I did a YouTube video of it.

Sounds like there is some junk in the fan. It happens when stuff falls into the fan opening.

There's nothing in the fan. I just have to reset or restart the 3D printer once or twice. Then it works with out the weird noise.

That's almost certainly the fan. Sometimes they make that noise when the bearings start to go out. Next time it's making the noise, tap the center of the fan and see if it stops, or at least changes tone momentarily. The good news is that the fan is easy to replace.

Have you been able to isolate the cause of this? My M2 makes a similar noise every now and then on startup. I find it hard to believe that it's the fan because it never does it any other time. If the fan were worn out it seems like the noise would occur at other times too since it runs for hours on end. It happens only when powering up. If I turn it off, wait a few seconds, and power up again, it's fine.

To determine if it is the fan, just stop the fan with your finger or any solid object and see if the noise stops.. It will not hurt anything. I get ABS stuck in there all the time during nozzle prime.

When bearings fail, they will start making noise when they are cold. As they warm up, the metal expands, the lubrication flows better, and they will stop making noise (for a while). Over the years, I've had all sorts of fans that scream briefly on start up. For the ones that can be lubricated, a drop of oil shuts them right up. Most DC fans aren't designed for lubrication, but as mentioned, they are easy to replace.
