Has anyone changed their brass nut on the Z axis?

Post by Farr0wn3d » Sun May 07, 2017 5:21 am

Mind is worn out, so I ordered a new one, and now that I'm part way into the replacement, I've realized that the method I planned to use isnt going to work.

Does anyone have experience with doing this?

When I replaced the Z-axis motor (*) a few years ago, I wrote down what I did in case I ever had to do it again:

The operation required more disassembly than I expected, but the sequence may work for you, too …

(*) With one direct from The Orient, not an official Makergear part.

Thank you for your reply, Ed.

I hadn't even considered removing the Z rods.

I threaded the new brass Z nut onto the top portion of the lead screw (where the knob was) to see how far gone my original nut was, and to my surprise the new one has very similar radial and axial play when compared to the original one. I had expected there to be zero in the new one. This has prompted me to reconsider replacing it at this time.
