How to print with higher resolution and density?

Post by Steve Zhang » Wed Jun 28, 2017 1:28 am

I was trying to print a part with M2 printer. But the printer sometimes uses less material and lines on a layer. That makes the part not strong enough.
I’ve tried to print for several times but no better. Is there anything that I can set in the software for a better resolution and density?

Thanks

Sounds like you want to increase your infill %.

Increasing the number of perimeter threads makes the outside walls thicker; I use 2 for PETG.

Increasing the number of top and bottom solid layers makes them thicker; I use 3 for a good flat surface over the infill.

Increasing the infill density makes the whole part stiffer; 15% seems about right for PETG with the 3D Honeycomb infill pattern.

The resolution won't have much effect on strength. In round numbers, it'll be around 0.4 mm (with minimum 0.8 mm feature sizes) in the XY plane and whatever you set for the thread thickness in the Z axis (typically around 0.25 mm). Thinner layers may look better, but the printing time goes up proportionally and 0.1 mm seems to be the practical limit.
