Rev E spider ...moving Z switch to bottom
Rev E spider ...moving Z switch to bottom
I’m currently upgrading my spider to the revE and as part of the process I have to move my Z switch to the bottom of the printer (vs top).
Question: with the new Z switch bracket (for unit with silver motor), do you pus the bracket completely down to the bottom of the rod as far as you can got? Or do you raise it slightly?
Thank you!!

Re: Rev E spider ...moving Z switch to bottom
I don't know what the "new bracket" looks like but on the original ones (if I remember correctly) it had to be up off the bottom a bit for the bed actually make contact with the switch. I usually end up putting a washer or some kind of spacer under it though so it doesn't move down when the bed drops on it. If you can have it all the way at the bottom and still work I'd probably do that.
Keep in mind if you move the switch to the bottom you have to run the new firmware too.

Re: Rev E spider ...moving Z switch to bottom
I haven’t installed the new firmware yet to test, however I did notice if I pushed it to the bottom it only started to press the switch, which is why I sent this note). I’m not sure if it presses it enough to trigger when placed all the way down...that is what I was trying to determine....
I think the idea of putting something under (if it needs to be lifted) is interesting because I could see the weight of the bed making it move....

Either get the bracket that holds the switch, or use top-homing.

I do have the bracket, but am not sure if it should be pushed all the way to the bottom (it is clamped to the back rod), or if it should be lifted slightly from the bottom....insta wrote:Either get the bracket that holds the switch, or use top-homing.

There are two mounts for the z max endstop.
For printers with the black z motor, it mounts on top of the z motor.
For silver there is a bracket that mounts to the rear guide.

I run the black-motor mount on the silver motors. It requires some extremely short M3 screws, but otherwise works fine. It might also work with really long M3 screws running all the way through the motor and fastened down with a nut.

Here are my photos...
You can see that with the Z switch pushed all the way down the platform barely engages it when it is lowered.
I'm not sure how much you expect the switch to be triggered or how much to raise it. I don't want to put undue stress on it, but also want it to trigger correctly. Then do I need to put something under it or simply tighten the bolt....
Thanks!!
