Not a bad idea Dale. Jimc, would you want me to mail you one so you could give it a try and see what you think of it. We're both in NJ.

The benefits are better adhesion and minimal transfer of residue to printed product.

This is a comparison of the same print and temperature settings. The top used the standard plate. The bottom one used my glass plate. Both items came out without warping. The discoloration is the hairspray that adhered to the print.

That is why I use elmer's glue sticks for ABS printing. It holds better than hair spray and washes right off.

I like the finish of your glass better. How about a picture of the glass.

I can assure you that however well the glue holds on glass it will hold better on this.

jimc wrote:For alum you should get mic6 tooling plate. Its cast and stress free so it stays flat when its heated and cooled. You can get it from mcmaster or online metals. Its machined on both sides. You will need to find someone with a blast cabinet to glass bead it for you and cut to exact size
I got my piece of mic6 tooling plate it is 10 X 10 ¼” what is the best way to cut the 2” of the one side.
I have a 12” chop saw?
Then I just have to find a place to glass bead it maybe a machine shop?

Yes thats fine as long as it has a nice 80 tooth or better carbide blade. They do make special saw blades for non ferrous metals but just to make one cut youll be fine with your saw. Many places have blast cabinets and many medias will work, not just glass bead. You just dont want a real coarse media. A nice fine aluminum oxide will work as well. Just tell the person you dont want a rough surface. I actually used a very fine crushed recycled glass.

Thanks for the info? My blade is carbide and I think it is 80 tooth but I will have to check.

I have never done abrasive blasting but I could see where it could come in handy.
Does this look like it would work. Portable Abrasive Blaster Kit
