are you sure that the new assembled units are now the v4 extruder? i hadn't heard that. thought is was always an upgrade. as for s3d, its a great piece of software and i highly recommend it. not all but most of the makergear crowd use it but its not necessary. if you dont use it, you are limiting yourself on the # of people who can respond with advice and help you with settings, etc. print size, you always want to model things in pieces and assemble. almost everything is made that way. nothing is ever manufactured in one big chunk. model things in part and pieces to be assembled in some fashion.

I talked to them more then once. A couple friends who also wanted to get one talked to them as well. Every time I asked I was told that assembled version is now shipping with v4 and if the kit is going to ship with the v4 it would be quite a while before that happens.

Also on there wiki it says v3b is end of life August 2015.
