Restoring Simplify3D Settings

Post by AstroBuilder » Tue May 08, 2018 3:07 am

New user here with the M3 Dual Independent. I had been printing some objects in PLA with very few issues and decided to try nGen. First attempt printed fairly well, but with a shifted layer. (I did notice that the print came off the bed extremely easily, so I'm guessing that it moved a bit while printing). I had printed using a raft and when I tried removing it most of the bottom layer of my object pulled off with it. Tried again, but I'm now having issues (no adhesion, balling of filament at the extruder) so I decided I would return to printing PLA for the time being. But then I noticed that with Auto Configure for Material set to PLA in S3D, the PLA settings had not returned but now reflected my most recent attempts at tweaking my settings for nGen.

How do I return to the out of the box settings for PLA (can they be reloaded from anywhere)? And is there a way to define new materials in S3D, or is that a matter of defining a new Process for each new material? Main thing at this point is to get back to the originally provided PLA settings.

Thanks.

Click the drop down next to profile and select the original profile for your printer. The one you are using probably says Modified next to it.
I would suggest heading over to the Simplify3D site and watching all the videos and reading all the stuff posted as that is the extent of the documentation. This software is apparently one of the best but with many bugs, not much detailed documentation and it seems like no active development.. There is a real steap learning curve and none of this is plug and play, get ready to spend a LOT of time experimenting and reading.. been a few months for me and just starting to feel like I have some what of a handle on it..
Good luck and I will see you over at S3D

strange. i never found it difficult to work with S3D. you are right about the experimenting and reading, but that's less to do with S3D and more to do with 3D printing itself. i always found it a great help. most of the parameters and settigns have explanations when you roll over them with the mouse, by the way.

S3D is definitely still under development, and they are threatening a major new release later this year. I say "threatening" both because they plan to charge existing users for it, and because they tend to introduce new bugs with each version, including breaking things that worked before. They also have changed the operation of some significant features, with the only warning being buried in fine print in the release notes.

I'm running a version that is about 3 revs behind after fighting with bugs in the updates.

Yes, they must have hired a someone with NO knowledge of 3d printing to write code.. only explanation I could come up with .. still on 4.01 which works the way I know it works.. Guess it is time to try some other slicers..

I'm still on 4.0.0 (using a M3-ID) for similar reasons:
Complaints on this board/Since I know 4.0.0 works I'm just waiting for the update to be worthwhile.
Any news about fixes?

I don't want to bother learning the new broken version so still on 4.01 which I am very comfortable with. There is a lot of whining about 5.0 being a paid product with no free upgrades, but after the mess they made of 4.1 I am hoping some other slicer will eventually bubble to the top of the pot...
The claim on 5.0 is more or less rewrite so "Look OUT SNOOPY!"
