s3d 2.1 is out

Post by jimc » Fri Apr 11, 2014 4:24 am

i dont know how long this has been available since i havent checked in awhile and i havent heard anyone talking about it but you can download the new update. i have not been through it at all to see what is new but there is a printer setup wizard in the beginning that has profiles for the v3a and v3b.

You can set your perimeter start locations now!
No more having to explicitly save your gcode to a named file if you don't want to.
The suggested filename is based on your STL file name, and not always Untitled.
Live print preview tracking.
You can inflate the automated support by a set distance to ensure that it covers all the overhangs.
The default settings for temperature are more reasonable (235 ABS, 215 PLA).
The M108 line of death has been fixed to S255 in the startup gcode for v3b hot ends.

All good things.

The layer height for "Fast" is 0.30mm, which is a tad ambitious.
It is assuming $37.20 per kg of filament for the cost calculation, assuming 330m per kg. I don't see where to change that.

I had not uninstalled the previous version. But now I have, and then I re installed the new version and everything looks like it did in the previous version and not like it does in my screenshot. I'm not sure what happened there...

And then I got this again.

your still running the old version there. perhaps you deleted the wrong one? or maybe the actual old one didnt get completely removed and you are clicking on the old icon......or you reinstalled the old version back onto your pc. its gotta be one of those. even on the s3d forum i have not seen anyone else complain of crashing. how about you just delete everything s3d off your computer so nothing is getting confused. download a new copy of 2.1 and then install it.

just to add to jins change list above, i have noticed that when set to auto extrusion width the setting is much lower than it used to be. a .15mm layer height with a .35 nozzle gave a width of .64mm now its down to .42mm. not sure if that is just where they defaulted the setting to or there are some extrusion flow changes there to make that more consistent. there was a slight under-extrusion before with a width down closer to your nozzle dia. i havent really noticed anything else other than you can now also print sparse support.

You were right Jim, I uninstalled version 2.0 then re-installed it. I have completely uninstalled everything related to S3D. Then I installed version 2.1, and I am having the exact same problem, after I choose prepare to print the program gets an error and closes. I checked the firewall and there shouldn't be an issue there. I'm not sure whats going on but I have contacted the creators and am waiting for their response. Thanks Jim.

Well the first part is good news. The second not so much. Hopefully they can get you squared away.

Jimc, is it true?? Can you change layer start locations?

After watching a 20min youtube video I think I may be sold on the software.

What infill pattern options are available?
