S3D V2.2, default M2 settings

Post by Mount PrintMore » Mon Jan 19, 2015 5:52 am

I recently updated to S3D V2.2, and for grins I took a look at the latest "default" M2 settings for ABS.

It seems like the default settings have really digressed. The biggest issue I noticed was that the Extrusion Width is defaulting to "Manual" and the Extrusion Multiplier is 1.10.

I haven't kept a real detailed log of what the defaults have been in the various versions, but I don't think that anyone actually runs with it configured that way.

Also, the "Only retract when crossing open spaces" is defaulted as checked. I thought it was pretty clear that having that check aggravates the blobbing.

there are a couple strange things in s3d. #1 not all settings update when you choose a different profile so if you load a new one, even if its default, some will stay as you last had them. if you didnt have your settings like that then goto help/reset all settings, then load the default profile and see what you get.

For the record, I had just updated to V2.2.0. I see V2.2.1 available.

I did the help, reset all, and I get the same thing. It runs me through the configuration wizard, I pick the MakerGear M2 (hotend V3a), and it defaults to manual extrusion width of 0.35 mm and an extrusion multiplier of 1.10.

It seems kind of unfair to start someone off on their MakerGear M2 journey with those settings as the default doesn't it?

Is there anybody out there printing ABS with a 0.35 mm nozzle and a manual extrusion width of 0.35?

Could it be that V2.2 reverted to a prior Marlin Configuration.h?

Prior to installation of V2.2 I had X maximum travel of 215. Now it's 205. I tried changing it with: M208 X215 Y245 Z175 followed by M500. No change.
