In the early 90s, I had a Sun 3-110C workstation that I bought second-hand from Sun Microsystems headquarters in Mountain View. What a beast of a machine. But I was bound and determined not to be shoehorned into either the Windows or Mac camps.

yeah i was just a kid and lucky enough for my dad to buy me an apple 2c. the apple 2 was all they taught in high school. i recently set up a raspberry pi with retropi on it. there is an apple 2 emulator. man that brings back some memories. i knew nothing of windows or even mac back then. all the pc's of the time were far too expensive for me to get ahold of.

the previous mail app in 8.1 said incompatible with pop servers. this one appears to be but i cant seem to be able to get the ports set right and there is something about the certificate which is no good and it kills the whole thing. em client is really a nice mail client so ill prob just stick with that but it does bother me i havent been able to get Microsoft's working. im sure ill get it eventually. it will bug the crap out of me even though i dont even need it. lol

Well, okay, if that counts as "being apple" then yeah, I was apple in the mid-80s. I scrapped up enough money for a Sinclair ZX-80 back in 1980 and hardware-hacked the thing to death in a few years, but the Apple II was Real Money, so like you, I was lucky enough for my dad to generously support my budding interest in electronics and computer science (especially lucky, as he was a lawyer and knew squat about electronics and computer science). My Apple II is still sitting in my basement, and I booted it up off of a 5 1/4" floppy recently and ran a MIDI interface program I wrote. . . all still working!

But I lost interest in Apple when they came out with the Macintosh. It was a cute machine and all that, but you had to have a special extra-length Torx screwdriver to get into the case. . . Seriously hacker unfriendly.

hahahaha you just wanted to take it apart. well in 1980 i was in kindergarten. if i was born just 5 years earlier i would have hit the computer explosion at the right time. i hit it when the schools only taught apple 2 and of course we know how far that went. i knew nothing else. if i was 5 years earlier i could have really gotten into it where i could have a big enough head start to learn different systems.
