Here is my MakerGear M2 printer profile file that I created to use Cura 2.3.0.
I am new to 3D printing, but I come from a programming background. I am sure the settings in the profile file could be refined further. I do not print directly from Cura, so it is unknown if that setup works.
I had hoped to complete some filament profile files before posting, but maybe at a later time.
Installation Instructions:
- 0) Install Cura 2.3
1) Run Cura
2) Goto configuration directory
- [ Cura -> "Help" menu -> "Show Configuration Folder" submenu ]
3) Quit Cura
4) copy "makergear_m2e.def.json" file into "Extruders" directory
5) Run Cura
6) Add MakerGear M2 printer
- [ Cura -> "Settings" menu -> "Manage Printers" submenu -> "Add" button - open other - select "MakerGear M2e" ]
Change or Update Instructions:
- NOTE: NEVER modify or replace "makergear_m2e.def.json" file while Cura is running.
1) Run Cura
2) Delete M2 printer
- [ Cura -> "Settings" menu -> "Manage Printers" submenu -> "remove" button - select "MakerGear M2e" ]
( Note: Cura behaves oddly if the printer is not removed before making changes to it )
3) Quit Cura
4) [ MAKE CHANGES (replace "makergear_m2e.def.json" file or edit "makergear_m2e.def.json" file) ]
5) Run Cura
6) Add MakerGear M2 printer
- [ Cura -> "Settings" menu -> "Manage Printers" submenu -> "Add" button - open other - select "MakerGear M2e" ]
Best of Luck

Nice one. I always wanted to try Cura but didn't want to deal with dialing in the settings.

Appreciate the profile. However the build volume of the printer is incorrect. The Y & Z size are reversed.

Hows the new Cura compared to S3D?
Has anybody tried the new Cura Cubic 3D infill? Stronger parts?

The MakerGear M2 machine file for Cura 2.3 has been updated with the correct build volume values.

Amazing, thanks for sharing.
One Question - At the end of the session the bed lowers then raises again until the nozzle stabs the final print. Any suggestions for a fix?

Could you give me some more information:
- Cura version number?
- The print size (mainly height)?
- Printer model?
- Does it happen on all prints?
- Could you post the last 30 lines of the Cura gcode of a print with the problem?

I've been using S3D, and recently upgraded to the latest version, 4.1.1. Well, they've changed a bunch of stuff, and I spent a couple days dealing with adhesion problems because they altered the way the first layer height works. I've also seen a host of other issues come up on the S3D forum that make me very nervous. I've reverted to S3D 4.0, which has been pretty good for a long time.
I've heard a lot of good things about the relative print quality of Cura vs S3D, and also thought I might give that a try. Cura is now up to version 3.6, and I was wondering if anyone has an up to date configuration file for the M2E?
Thanks!

I would also be interested.. I did not update my S3D from 4.01 to 4.11 as I knew it would be a mess.. So I am stable and all works as it has for the past year for me.. However, I would like to give something else a try now I am comfortable with S3D and fabricating in general.
