Y Axis grinding

Post by telephone1652 » Mon May 12, 2014 2:16 am

Hi everybody,

I just picked up a used M2 this weekend and am excited to get it running. I have a first gen Cupcake that was a good handful of years overdue for replacement, so I'm jazzed to have this new machine. Right now I'm running it through Pronterface, but I plan on upgrading to Simplify soon.

Anyhow, I'm running through the setup process and working on homing the motors. The x and z behave exactly as they should, but the y motion is strange. It grinds nastily when moving, and a both + and - move the build platform away from me, towards the side of the machine with the power connectors. Both directions also tend to shudder and occasionally move a step or two in the opposite direction. However, the y endstop does cause the platform to cease motion if I press it after pressing the y home button.

While this isn't my first 3d printer, I'm brand new with this machine and wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Ah!
The motor connection to the main board had come just a little bit loose, but not entirely disconnected. Works like a charm now. On to bed leveling!
