Is that something for running the machine without the need for a computer to be hooked up?

Just watched a video about it, that looks pretty nice. I don't see it listed on the makergear site, but I see it for sale on other sites. Does it need to be flashed with a special firmware version to work on the M2? I see it has it's own SD slot too, does it ignore the SD built onto the RAMBO controller?

i think the rambo needs to have some firmware changes but insta or someone else with one will have to comment. i dont have one. i run 2 printers off computers and the other of a pi with octoprint.

Is pi/octoprint setup cheaper or better on features?
With only one machine I really don't need one, but if I ever go into production using multiple machines I'd want to free them from the computer and just run the same part all day.

Octopi is really nice. Only cost you $35 for the pi, $5 for a ac power adapter and $7 for a usb wifi adapter. You still need a computer to access your pi on the network. You open it up in a browser window to access the web interface. All the printer control is done by the pi though. It cam also control a camera and since its accessed though web you can control the printer from anywhere on your phone or tablet

Yes there is a flash file you can download from the Makergear Wiki page. As far as the SD reader you remove the one on the original box and plug the one from the Viki into the now empty connector on the Rambo.pyronaught wrote:Just watched a video about it, that looks pretty nice.
