Set screws on drive gears shredding?

Post by insta » Fri Jul 10, 2015 4:28 pm

It's happened twice now ... the set screw that holds the filament drive digs into the output shaft and the gear goes loose. These are insanely tiny screws, and when they get banged up like this they don't come back out easily.

Any fix for this outside of drilling them out and retapping for a 6-32 grubscrew? (what I did on the other one)

are you still using the old style on with that microfine screw? the new ones have bigger setscrews. if the smaller one then your better off drilling and tapping a bigger one anyway.

k, that's what I'll keep doing then. Every machine I have has (or had) the microfine screw.
